When we made it to New Orleans we were pretty disappointed. We were hoping this would be a great place to find a lot of Jazz history and culture and we really didn't find much at all. The Jazz National Park is a one room hole in the wall that was difficult to find. The state Museum's Jazz exhibit temporarily shut down for remodel and most of the music we heard was country or rock. Kaleb was sad as this was the stop he was looking forward to the most. We are still stuck in the heat and it is very muggy still. The last Walmart we went to had a small room air conditioner that we are thinking of jimmy rigin' to try and have a place of relief and to sleep better. The lack of good sleep is the hardest thing to deal with right now. It is making it much more difficult to be patient with each other when we are out and about for an entire day. overall, I think we made the most out of our visit to N.O. LA.

French donuts at Cafe Du Monde.

Jackson Square.

St. Louis Cathedral.

Mardi Gras mask. Too cute.

Chelsea is shocked at how small and pathetic the Jazz Museum is.

After exploring the Jazz info, or lack there of, we walked around like a bunch of tourists. We went to Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville restaurant , which had really good food, and went to a lot of tourist shops. We spent some time in the farmers market and did find some cheap souvenirs there. We spent most of our time on Decatur street as that is where Cafe Du Monde is and it was close to the jazz museum. When we made it up to Burbon St. we felt like we had be magically transported to the sleaziest part of Vegas in an instant. We could only walk a couple of blocks with the kids before turning onto another street. We decided to get some ice cream and get to our shuttle pick up location. We got there around twenty minutes early so we stopped into a glass blowing gallery on the same block. The artist was working and we were able to see him color glass and shape it into beads. Chelsea found a ring she liked and bought it for a souvenir. When the shuttle bus arrived we climbed on and looked forward to going back to camp to hang in the pool to beat the heat. We found a nice RV park here. It is on the lake and has some nice features. The pool isn't huge but it has color changing lights and a waterfall and the bathrooms and showers are very clean. After we pack up it is off to Walmart and Montgomery Al. I am looking forward to the Civil Rights memorial, MLK's church, Rosa Parks museum and the first white house of the confederacy (apparently on the same street as the civil rights memorial). Hopefully we can get out of town without facing too much traffic.

I hate that New Orleans didn't have the Jazz goin' for Kaleb. What a disappointment. Sounds like the street musicians were lacking (one of the things we enjoyed--but that was BK [before Katrina]--sounds like things have changed). One of the thinks we enjoyed was the fascinating architecture.
